Kohl’s Announces Continued Support of Four Milwaukee-Area Nonprofits
Organizations are among numerous groups to benefit from company’s strong hometown partnerships
At Kohl’s, our purpose is to inspire and empower families to lead fulfilled lives. We believe healthy communities help support healthy families and are dedicated to giving back to organizations nationwide and in our hometown of Milwaukee that address vital community needs.
As part of this long-standing commitment, we are proud to announce our continued support of four Milwaukee-area nonprofits: COA Youth & Family Centers, Hunger Task Force, Penfield Children’s Center and Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Wisconsin. These groups are among the many organizations to benefit from Kohl’s hometown giving to nonprofits that are focused on family health and wellness and addressing community disparities head-on. These renewed commitments represent a total level of new support exceeding $2 million.
COA Youth & Family Centers
Kohl’s recently pledged $375,000 over three years to COA Youth & Family Centers, which will help low-income children and their families from under-resourced neighborhoods by expanding the Kohl’s Explore Your Future program. Established in 2017, this program empowers Milwaukee youth, regardless of race, gender or socioeconomic status, by equipping them with the science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) skills needed to succeed in today’s dynamic workforce.
Hunger Task Force
More than 50,000 people each month rely on Hunger Task Force to provide healthy food, dignified service, outreach and nutrition education completely free of charge. Kohl’s one-year $750,000 grant to the organization will help provide healthy food for families and children facing hunger and will ensure the organization’s 70 food pantries and meal programs have a steady supply of food during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Penfield Children’s Center
Kohl’s one-year $800,000 contribution to Penfield Children’s Center will help the organization to maintain its Kohl’s Building Blocks program. Created in 2010, this program provides support to families, young children and infants through access to specialized educational and developmental programs. Kohl’s support this year will provide for early learning toolkits to help children reach age-appropriate milestones and allow Penfield to develop new digital and remote capabilities to continue serving families across racial, socio-economic and cultural spectrums.
Ronald McDonald House Charities of Eastern Wisconsin
Since its doors opened in 1984, the Ronald McDonald House Charities® Eastern Wisconsin has been keeping families together by providing more than 48,000 family stays. Kohl’s recent one-year, $150,000 commitment to the organization will provide for a variety of programs and services, including the planned creation of a new living room-like community space, Kohl’s Cozy Corner, where families will be able to gather and connect in comfort.
“We take great pride in standing behind groups like these that are making a significant impact and helping families throughout the greater Milwaukee area and beyond,” said Tara Geiter, Kohl’s director of community relations. “Since our founding, Kohl’s has been able to give more than $750 million to nonprofits nationwide and more than $130 million to organizations in our hometown that touch many different causes, all of which support Milwaukee families.”
In addition to financial contributions, Kohl's will continue to support these four groups through a variety of other initiatives, including leadership engagement and associate volunteerism. In 2019 alone, Kohl’s associates logged more than 2,500 volunteer hours to support Milwaukee-area hometown partners.
