Kohl’s Asian Pacific Business Resource Group celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Families, Donation to Alliance for a Healthier Generation supports Asian American and Pacific Islander health equity champions
At Kohl’s, we are committed to empowering our associates through equity, diversity and inclusion (D&I). Along this journey, Kohl’s Business Resource Groups (BRGs) continue to make an impact across the organization by leading cultural celebrations, offering mentorship opportunities, and working directly with nonprofits that connect with their communities.
Kohl’s Asian Pacific Business Resource Group Celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Families
This Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Kohl’s Asian Pacific BRG (AP BRG) is working to elevate the contributions, health and wellness for Asian Americans and Pacific Islander Americans (AAPI) throughout the country. Here is what Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month and Kohl’s AP BRG means to a few of these members:
“Asian American and Pacific American Heritage Month means being proud of who I am and where I came from. It's the time to appreciate my culture and respect the culture of others. AAPI Heritage month is very broad with many different cultures and it's a time to learn about them. I celebrate Asian American and Pacific American Heritage Month by spending time with my family and celebrating each of our accomplishments. I take the time to learn more about my culture so I can share it with others.”
“Asian American and Pacific American Heritage month means so many different things to me. As an Asian American woman that has a parent that immigrated, leaving their home behind, this is the time to celebrate them and recognize them. From understanding what they had to go through - not speaking one word of English when they arrived in America - to now having the opportunities to connect with other asian ethnicities and honor their experiences. Being able to celebrate my culture's traditions helps me connect with how my parents were brought up.”
"I am so proud of the work our AP BRG has accomplished the last few years. As an AP BRG Field ambassador, I have been leveraged as a strong voice for members in our stores and I'm honored to be a 'culture keeper'. Our BRG has created a safe space for our associates to elevate their voices. It has also supported education around the diverse cultures and nationalities within this group creating an inclusive environment. It's also great to see diversity within the senior level executive team that represents the asian community."
Kohl’s Asian Pacific Business Resource Group Teams Up With American Cancer Society
In addition to the AP BRG’s work throughout the communities Kohl’s serves, the group is also championing 146 American Cancer Society Relay For Life events across the country. The Relay For Life movement is dedicated to helping communities combat cancer. Through funds donated, time given, or awareness raised, Kohl’s associates across the country are teaming up to make a difference.
While cancer is a disease that can affect anyone, it doesn’t affect everyone equally. At Kohl’s we understand that minority communities often face greater obstacles when it comes to cancer as well as receiving the proper screening and medical care. Below is information regarding cancer in the AAPI community:
From 2014-2018, Asian/Pacific Islander men were 70 percent more likely to have stomach cancer than non-Hispanic white men.
Asian/Pacific Islander women are twice as likely to have stomach cancer than non-Hispanic white women (HHS).
Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death among AANHPI women.
Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer and the fifth-leading cause of cancer death among AANHPI men.
Kohl’s Donates to Alliance for a Healthier Generation in Honor of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month
