Ashley Buchanan is the chief executive officer of Kohl’s, a leading omnichannel retailer with a 1,100+ store base, ecommerce business, and 100,000 associates across the country.
Buchanan is responsible for the company’s growth, profitability, and strategic direction. He is focused on evolving Kohl’s business, building on the strength of its brand and loyal customer base and creating a compelling retail experience.
Buchanan is a seasoned retail veteran who has held leadership roles at The Michaels Companies, Walmart and Sam’s Club. Buchanan was appointed chief executive officer of Kohl’s in January 2025. Previously, he led The Michaels Companies as chief executive officer from 2020 to 2025 and held various roles of increased leadership at Walmart for nearly 11 years, including chief merchant at Sam’s Club and culminating as chief merchandising and chief operating officer for Walmart U.S. eCommerce.
